Even though the Visitors center is closed, the surrounding area is very interesting and full of story boards sharing the history of Cumberland with you. Worth a stop, plenty of bicyclists starting and finishing their rides from here.

I made a day trip from PA to Cumberland and this was such a pleasant little area. I took my kids and we went inside the visitors center where they did the pressed penny machine. Then they played on the playground (which is set up like a train), we walked down the little bridge and by the canal, then had a picnic! After that we walked down the pedestrian mall. It was a really nice experience and worth the drive to just spend the day relaxing there.

Great place but staff does not take care of their customer properly

A great place to learn about the surrounding area. Be sure to walk across and see Washington's cabin and the beginning of The National Road.

We parked near here to start our Gap trail Adventure. Impressive facility.
