Great customer service. The only problem was I didn't get the car I requested. Chevy Malibu is a very I mean very uncomfortable car to drive. But overall the atmosphere was great.

I rent vehicles fairly often for both work and personal use. This is the second or third time that I have used AVIS (other times were at airport locations). While the staff was friendly and competent, the facility was absolutely awful. It is dated, dirty, and the parking lot is full of potholes. The exterior does not have any lighting which makes it unsafe. I returned the vehicle at 8pm and found that the after hours drop box was welded shut so I could not leave the key. I attempted several times to lock the keys in the car only to realize that the car has a feature does not allow the keys to be locked in the car. This resulted in me having to make a second trip the following day back to the office to drop the key off. This was a 64 mi round trip for me and I also incurred additional charges for the time after drop off to when I actually dropped the key off. This is unacceptable and in the 20 years of renting cars it is the first time I have not been able to drop off after hours. I will not be using Avis again!

The pick-up of my rental on October 19, 2021 went well and with no compaints. However, before my return of the vehicle on October 23, 2021, I called and asked to keep the car longer (for a one-week period) and asked for the weekly rate. I was told I could not receive the weekly rate and would have to be billed at the daily rate I was given. The check-in agent said only her supervisor could approve the change to a weekly rate. In addition, after returning the vehicle, I was charged a $15 late fee. In the many years I have rented from Avis and other care dealers, I have never been charged a late fee upon return of a rental. Instead, I have always been told that if I needed the vehicle longer, to just let them know. At times in the past when I needed to change my rental rate from a daily to a weekly rate, I never encountered a problem. I would like Avis to: (1) reverse the late charge to my account; and (2) review its policy and/or procedure with the check-in clerk to determine if in fact the policy/procedure was followed. Meanwhile, while I was in the office returning my rental, I witnessed another customer in the office being given an extension on his rental at a very comfortable rate. When I questioned why I was being asked to pay the full daily rate, I was told the pricing for each rental was different.

Horrible customer service. No key drop box so an 8pm drop off will mean an additional day charge because there's no drop box.

Charged 200$ for gas when I filled the tank up before returning it! And charged another 150$ for cleaning but I cleaned the car before returning!

The car I got had such a bad smoke smell and also the passenger's window was stuck. I asked for another car the agent told me that they had to give this car had to go to a garage in a bigger city and I was going to Baltimore it was assigned to me. When I insisted on another car she told me this was the only car available. I was ok with the stuck window I could not deal with the smoke smell. Really bad experience with Avis. The car rental process can sometimes be long and cumbersome. But that has never been my experience with Avis. The website is easy to use. Everything is very up front and clear about what to expect as far as vehicle type, fees, etc. My local office is Dover, DE is great! The staff is friendly and they work efficiently. I've never had to wait for more than 10 minutes and the cars are always clean and ready to go.
